Roger O’Donnell — The Cure’s longtime keyboardist — has blood cancer… revealing the shocking news a year after he was first diagnosed.
The musician stopped by X Sunday to celebrate Blood Cancer Awareness Month… and he says he wants to make sure people are talking about these deadly diseases.
O’Donnell reveals he was diagnosed with lymphoma — a type of blood cancer — in September 2023… saying he ignored his symptoms for a while before finally going to the doctor when he discovered he had cancer.
Although devastated at first, Roger says he is now feeling well and has a great prognosis… this after undergoing several rounds of treatment.
Roger’s big advice to people… get tested early — because people have a better chance of beating cancer if they act quickly.
He’s also encouraging fans to reach out to sick friends and family… because kind words can make all the difference to someone struggling with their health. He thanks his loved ones and the medical professionals who helped him through the process.
Roger was on tour with The Cure from May to September last year… and it appears he received his diagnosis shortly after it ended. He joined the group in 1987, playing with them on several tours over the years.
The Cure doesn’t have any dates for future shows…it’s unclear whether O’Donnell will be ready to tour with the band when they schedule their next show.
