The bronze medal was won by Konstantinos Tzounis in the discus throw final in the F56 category at the Paralympic Games held in Paris.
This is the sixth Greek medal at the Paralympic Games.
The Greek discus thrower, on his fifth throw, sent the discus 41.32 meters, a performance that earned him the bronze medal.
The gold medal was won by Brazilian Claudiney Do Santos Batista with 46.86 meters and the silver by Indian Yogesh Katunia with 42.22 meters.
“Mom, we did it”
Speaking with ERT After winning the medal, Konstantinos Tzounis said: “I still don’t realize it. I want to say ‘Mom, we did it!’ It was a goal of mine, to be a Paralympian with a medal. And I wanted to prove to myself first of all that everything I did after Tokyo was not in vain. Because four years is not a short time.”
The Greek Paralympian referred to his hard work, while also highlighting that the event was difficult. “I was worried about the invalid shots, as happened in the world championships, but also the conditions of this match were special. I came with a European record, better than the performance of the athlete who took the silver medal, but there was the stress and the special circumstances. My family came to see me and I wanted to make them proud. Thank you Greece,” he said.
