Highly impressive despite the hype, while its name betrays the lofty goals that have been set. OR Mercedes-AMG kicks off the final phase of the evolution of the exclusive PureSpeed sports car, which made its world premiere in May 2024 in Monaco.
The prototypes of the model, which will be produced in limited numbers, are now in the final stages of testing. They will start on various types of roads in northern Italy before heading south to the high-speed test track at Nardò. The radical design of the two-seater performance car, completely open, with no roof or windshield, is a tribute to speed racing and must withstand a demanding test programme covering more than 3,000 kilometres.
During these tests, the development team focuses on a wide range of tasks under real-world conditions – necessary to control the high quality of the two-seater in order to ensure the functionality and interaction of all systems and components. The impressive bodywork is therefore assessed in many different situations in terms of compliance with strict quality standards. In addition, experts on the test track carry out detailed tests and adjustments under extremely dynamic conditions and at high speeds. The overall tests of the vehicles on public roads are carried out together with Pininfarina, a company specialising in the development of limited edition cars with which Mercedes collaborated on this project.
One of the most important features of this exclusive two-seater is the HALO system, which replaces the conventional A-pillar. It protects passengers in the event of an accident and comes from the flagship of motorsport. Just like in Formula 1, the aerodynamically optimised safety system of the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed consists of a curved bar attached to the vehicle body. Two helmets, also aerodynamically optimised, provide additional protection. Designed and manufactured exclusively for Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed.
Important: The production run will not exceed 250 units and is intended for a select few – enthusiasts and collectors. As is rightly emphasised, inspired by legendary racing cars, the combination of unrivalled racing aesthetics and extremely dynamic performance makes the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed a unique “driving machine” for connoisseurs. It is the first model in the new and extremely limited Mercedes-Benz Mythos series.
