The deadline for freelancers and self-employed workers to link their business account to the direct payment system (IRIS system) free of charge expires today, Monday, September 2.
As highlighted by the Ministry of Economy and National Finance, by connecting to the service, through a simple process that takes a few minutes and with just a few clicks on a mobile phone or computer, professionals can accept direct payments from their clients with significant reductions or no supply costs. It is important to note that it is not necessary to open a new account, but one of the existing accounts declared in the AADE Professional Accounts Registry can be used to register for the service.
500,000 freelancers and self-employed workers have registered
It should be noted that to date, around 500,000 self-employed workers and freelancers have registered with the service, although recently there has been a rapid increase in documents (more than 100,000 registrations have been completed in the previous three weeks).
Step by step registration process
Activating the service is quick and easy, without having to visit any bank or service, through the web banking or mobile banking of cooperating banks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Through your bank’s Internet Banking, the professional in just a few steps:
- Select the IRIS Payments service in the Internet Banking Services section.
- Declares the identifier to its customers (TIN).
- Connect the business account to which the money received through IRIS Payments will be credited.
- When you complete your registration on the service, a unique commercial QR code is generated, which you can share with your customers to scan and make payments to your business.
Please note that the IBAN chosen by professionals and self-employed workers during their registration must have been declared in the AADE Professional Accounts Register, on the myAADE digital portal (myaade.gov.gr) under Applications > Tax Services > Professional Account.
A total of 12 banks now offer the service: Alpha Bank, National Bank, Eurobank, Piraeus Bank, Cooperative Bank of Epirus, Viva.com, Optima Bank, Attica Bank, Pankritia Bank, Cooperative Bank of Thessaly, Cooperative Bank of Karditsa and Cooperative Bank of Chania.
Interested parties can find out in detail about the banks that offer the IRIS payment service for professionals through the official website of DIAS SA, selecting the bank with which they cooperate in the path Services > For Companies > IRIS direct payments to professionals / individual entrepreneurs and be informed by the bank on how to activate.
The benefits for citizens and professionals
According to the Ministry of Economy and National Finance, registration with the direct payment service offers professionals a series of important advantages such as:
- Easy payment collection without the need for the customer to be present and without additional equipment (POS).
- Instant availability of receipts in the business account 24 hours a day and immediate information via SMS or push notification. Professionals receive money instantly (within 2 seconds), even if the bank they work with is different from the client’s bank.
- Transaction security: Transactions are carried out in the banks’ secure mobile banking environment and using biometric data.
- Low cost of using the service: The cost of using the service is extremely low or non-existent and ranges from 0% to 0.50% of the transaction value. In other words, it is significantly lower if the same transaction is carried out using POS.
- It should also be noted that the limit of 500 euros per day for transactions via IRIS is applied per client and not to the total amount of payments that the professional can receive within 24 hours. For example, a professional can receive 4 payments of 500 euros each in one day (for a total of 2,000 euros).
- Furthermore, citizens who subscribe to the service benefit from absolutely free transactions (whether between citizens or for payments to professionals), easy, fast and secure payment, without IBAN, without card and without cash, just via mobile phone.
