He’s not the “poisonous ex” that Jenn Tran talked about on ‘Bachelorette,’ but rather someone she dated three years ago and recently reconnected with as friends… “or so I assumed as friends.”
As if it wasn’t hard enough to look for love with cameras in your face at any time of the day or night, and among dozens of men, Jenn Tran acquired a burst of the former in the most recent episode of The single woman — and that derailed the whole present.
“For him to come back here is just a huge shock,” Jenn mentioned while traveling with her entourage of suitors in New Zealand. Apparently, her ex-boyfriend, Matt Rossi, missed her in Colombia while he was there for two weddings, so he flew to New Zealand to accompany the production.
According to Jenn, Matt isn’t the “poisonous ex” she’s talked about on and off the show. “He’s not the one who messed me up a little bit,” she mentioned during Monday’s episode.
As a replacement, he is a man she dated three years ago, and then “reunited recently as friends — or so I thought as friends.”
And this wasn’t just pet love following her around the world, as Matt dropped the “l-bomb” on Jenn. “I really love you,” he advised her, after she challenged him that he could have mentioned all of those things before she left.

“I said it,” he insisted, “but I didn’t say it in such a grand way, I think.”
With 12 guys left, Matt asked if he could join the show, forming a baker’s dozen, and continue this journey with her… because it might go over really well with the remaining guys who had been fighting for her attention all this time.
Matt is no stranger to followers of Jenn’s journey to find love, even though he’s new to Bachelor Nation TV screens. As famous for Us WeeklyMonths before starting this journey, Jenn talked about dating someone in her TikTokwhom she called “sausage boy” because of his canine.
In the video, dated December 2023, Jenn shares a bit of their story and how Matt left her. “Weiner boy and I started dating and I am completely in love with him. I want to marry Weiner boy, I want to be Mrs. Weiner right now,” she advised her followers.

“Which really sucks because three months later this idiot boy leaves me and I’m completely devastated,” she continued. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. This is the first real relationship I’ve ever had outside of college.”
Heartbreak served Jenn well, however, as when she went to Miami on an impromptu trip after the breakup, it was there that she discovered the PA (physician assistant) school she would eventually attend.
“If Weiner Boy hadn’t been born and broken my heart, I wouldn’t be fulfilling my dreams right now,” she said in the video.
Two months later, in a TikTok From his personal experience, Matt acknowledged that he was the “wiener boy” in question, and detailed his side of the story. “Things started getting pretty bad and Jenn was able to calm down, but my dad just wasn’t there yet,” he said in the video (from his dog’s point of view). He closed by asking her to “give me another chance.”
In his video, Matt referred to himself as a “f–k boy” when he and Jenn first met, and admitted that he was “using her for clout” as this was when she was about to become one of Joey Graziadei’s last girls in the The Bachelor.
So what is he doing now?

Outside of Matt bogarting the episode, and making an attempt to break into the present, the precise cast of suitors got to enjoy some quality time with Jenn in Auckland, New Zealand. She had a dozen guys over when they arrived, with two of them landing on one-on-one dates.
Sam M got their first one, which turned out to be harder for Jenn than it was for him. What she thought was a drink at the top of the Auckland Sky Tower was actually a fall. Bungee jumping off the building was not her thing at the time!
Her man was totally into her, and trying to push her out of her comfort zone, however, she simply realized that he was being pushy. She was clearly on the verge of her emotional breaking point, so his insistence was definitely not getting her anywhere.
What she mentioned, in a confessional, was that she wanted her concern to be validated and to actually feel supported by Sam. When he finally turned around and gave it to her, saying they didn’t have to jump…she then wanted to do it, and so did they. In the end, he got that rose.
Devin arranges the second one-on-one, which leads the couple to meet a group of Māori people. Their shared culture was impactful for the couple, as they each have their own backgrounds that they don’t feel strongly connected to, and would like to have more.
Opening up about family dynamics and connections to his cultural roots was also evident in the evening, when he presented Devin with a rose.

At the group meeting, everyone else is dressed up for a rugby game — which may have had a bit too much testosterone injected into it. Sam N, in particular, was positively having a blast, right down to his “Jenn’s Husband” shirt.
After his team wins the game, he carries his pride into the evening and doesn’t listen when the other guys tell him to slow down a bit. They ask him to be respectful of the other guys there… so he grabs Jenn first and gives her a “Sam’s Wife” shirt.
When he asks if he can kiss her, the guys may have gotten more than they bargained for. Jenn tells him she’s not feeling it, or him for that matter, and Sam N is asked to grab his shirts and go home. That rose goes to Marcus.
Unfortunately, after Matt took over the episode, we ended up with that cliffhanger of whether or not she would welcome him onto the show (that tactic definitely hasn’t worked in the interloper’s favor lately, out of respect for the other suitors).
However, The single woman will make us wait until next week to find out whether or not Matt will be on the show… and who Jenn will kick out at the next Rose Ceremony.
The single woman airs Mondays at 8pm ET on ABC.
