He left, but not forgotten. Shannen Doherty received a tribute from the daughter of his deceased Beverly Hills, 90210 Co-star, Lucas Perryfollowing it death on saturday.
Sophie Perry, 24, paid tribute to Doherty in a post on her Instagram Story, sharing a throwback photo of the former co-stars. In the sepia-toned photo, the actors are all glammed up and flashing huge smiles as Luke playfully holds Doherty’s necklace between his teeth. Sophie added a simple white heart emoji to her post.
The pair previously played iconic love interests Brenda Walsh and Dylan McKay on the beloved series.
Doherty, who was also known for her role as Prue Halliwell in Charmeddied on Saturday, July 13, after a long battle with cancerShe was 53 years old.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” the actress’s longtime publicist Leslie Sloane told ET in a statement at the time. “On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of battling the disease.”
The statement continued: “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones, as well as her dog, Bowie. The family requests privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
In June, Doherty emotionally revealed in her Let’s be clear podcast that she would undergo chemotherapy for her stage 4 breast cancer after the composition of her cancer cells progressed.
Luke, who was best known for his roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 It is Riverdale, died in March 2019 after suffering a “massive stroke”. He was 52 years old.
A source told ET at the time that his daughter was in Africa on a humanitarian mission at the time of the stroke, but was able to fly back to be by her father’s side during his final days.
Doherty has previously opened up to ET about Luke’s legacy as she reprised her iconic role in Beverly Hills, 90210 meeting series, BH90210, in your honor.
“I wasn’t attached (before Perry’s death)… and it wasn’t long after he died that I finally thought, ‘OK, yeah,'” Doherty revealed about joining. BH90210. “I thought it was going to work out with or without me, to be honest. For me, reprising Brenda was something I said I wouldn’t do twice and I’ve reprised it twice, so I guess I could never say I’ll never do something again because I end up doing it.”
Doherty — who also special guest in Perry’s other project, Riverdalein tribute to the late actor — also spoke about Perry’s impact on the hit ’90s series, proclaiming that “he was one of the most important parts of 90210.”
“For me, I felt like I was honoring him and his memory and what he meant to the audience and the fans and to all of us,” she said of returning to the role. “As his family on set, I felt like it was an important time for all of us to come together to honor him.”
On the weekend, Doherty was remembered for his career, life and friendship by several of his former castmates.
“So young – so sad. May you rest in peace Shannon. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you,” Gabrielle Carteris wrote on Instagram.
About that, Jennie Garth wrote a moving tribute to his late friend.
“I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my longtime friend Shannen, the woman I have always described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest. We were often pitted against each other, but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship, which was built on mutual respect and admiration,” she wrote. “She was brave, passionate, determined, and so loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie 💔.”
