Miss Elliott wants to make sure his fans experience his music like never before when they come to the Out of This World Tour!
“What my fans can expect is an immersive experience in whatever that is,” Elliott told ET at the Missy Elliott Presents Party on the Plaza: An Out of This World Experience, hosted in partnership with The Music Center and Gloria Molina Grand Park on Wednesday.
“I wanted to make sure I wasn’t just doing a show. They’ve been listening to these records for years, I wanted to give them the visuals and make them feel like they were a part of these videos. That’s the most important thing, to feel like you’re immersed, that you’re right there. Really out of this world. That’s what I want them to feel.”
Elliott’s headlining tour features three of her best friends and longtime support systems in the industry — Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland. The “Supa Dupa Fly” rapper admitted that it was Ciara’s push that finally got her to hit the road.
“I wouldn’t want to go through this experience with anyone else,” she said of the “1, 2 Step” singer. “Ciara has been asking me to go on the road for years and I’m like, ‘OK, we’re going.’ Then we never go. And then it’s like, OK, years later we go and then we don’t go and then I’m like, ‘You know what? We’re actually going this time.'”
Having Busta and Timbaland on the tour was also an obvious decision, as Elliott wanted to make sure her music was celebrated and that she was with her family.
“Busta, who’s like, I call him my twin because he’s like the male version of me and I’m the female version of him, he was on my first album, so he’s been there since day one,” she said. “I’m like, if I was going to hang out with anyone, it would be Timbaland, who’s been my brother since we were in high school, like, we’re up there playing, ‘Up Jumps the Boogie,’ which we haven’t played in probably 26 years. They’re family to me. They’re not just, like, artists that are, you know, out there, they’re family.”
The show, which kicked off on July 4, is in full swing, and things are just getting started, according to the “Get Ur Freak On” rapper.
“The first night was unbelievable,” Elliott said. “Even with the issues. I always tell people, ‘Hey, you see the finished product, but there’s a lot of issues going on behind the scenes.’ But just being on that stage, seeing it packed from top to bottom, it makes you feel like, wow, like, all these years, so many people that you’ve reached that are going to come out and support is a blessing.”
Fans are treated to a full show, with Elliott going through four costume changes, backup dancers doing everything from tap to ballet to hip-hop, and all the hits.
Speaking of hits, Elliott is shy when it comes to new music.
“I think you guys are going to get something new,” she teased to ET. “But I just realized I can’t say anything because people don’t forget and they’re going to stalk my page and be like, ‘Yeah, you said this last year. You said this in 2015, you said this in 2016.’ So I’m going to wait. It’s going to be a surprise, but it’s coming soon. It’s coming soon, for sure.”
