Miley Cyrus copied a favorite Bruno Mars track for his hit “Flowers” … at least according to a new lawsuit.
The singer is being sued for copyright infringement by Tempo Music Investments, an organization that claims to own a portion of the copyright to Bruno’s track “After I Was Your Man.”
In the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Tempo Music claims there are so many musical similarities between Miley’s “Flowers” and Bruno’s “After I Was Your Man” that it’s clearly the result of Miley “deliberately copying” Bruno.
Tempo Music claims that the melody, chords and chorus in “Flowers” are considerably similar to the verse in “After I Was Your Man”… and then they say that Miley’s track copies the chord progressions and mirrors some of the lyrics as well.
Miley won a Grammy for “Flowers”… but Tempo Music says she wouldn’t be getting her flowers without Bruno’s track, which was released a decade earlier and reached the top of the charts.
In the documents, Tempo Music says… “It is plain, based on the mix and variety of similarities between the two recordings, that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘After I Was Your Man.’”
Tempo Music says Miley, her label and her producers had access to Bruno’s track… and so they’re after Miley for money, and want her to be prevented from distributing or performing “Flowers.”
It is worth noting that… Bruno Mars is not the author of the lawsuit.
We reached out to Miley’s group… so far, no word has been said.
