More than 200 people lost their lives, including some hostages, during the operation by Israeli forces to free four hostages in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in the central part of the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinians.
Hamas said there were at least 210 people killed in Israeli strikes in Nuseirat. “The number of victims of the carnage perpetrated by the Israeli occupation force in the Nuseirat camp is 210 martyrs and more than 400 injured,” reported the Hamas press office, without mentioning the release of hostages.
In turn, Abu Ubaydah, spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said that some hostages were killed during Israel’s hostage release operation.
Abbas calls emergency Security Council meeting
At the same time, Hamas chief Ismail Haniya declared that “resistance will continue.”
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council over the “bloody massacre committed by Israeli forces” in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Israel: Rescue of 4 hostages
Previously, the Israeli army announced the rescue of four Israeli hostages (three men and one woman). All four were kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 at the site of the Supernova music festival.
The hostages, according to the Israeli military, were rescued from two different locations in Nuseirat. Their health condition is good and they were taken to the hospital to undergo further medical examinations.
Netanyahu: Israel does not back down in the face of terrorism
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel does not succumb to terrorism and is acting “creatively and courageously” to bring back hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
“We are committed to doing the same in the future. We will not stop until we complete the mission and return all hostages, both those who remain alive and those who are dead,” Netanyahu said.
