Former Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva was received like a hero by thousands of Fluminense fans who gathered at the Maracanã stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, for the Brazilian’s return to the club where he started his career.
“You have no idea how special it is for me to come home.”said the 39-year-old player into the microphone, at the stadium where he played for “Flu” from 2006 to 2008.
According to the club, 50,000 fans watched Silva’s presentation, a record number of audiences for similar events in Brazil.
Thiago Silva has signed a two-year contract but will not be able to play before July 10, when Brazil’s international transfer window opens.
In the team, the experienced defender will meet other protagonists of Brazilian football in recent years, such as Marcelo and Felipe Melo.
