Martin Scorsese may be a sequel to his classic “Raging Bull”… because apparently he’s living with an angry dog - one who mutilated his longtime collaborator.
Paulo Schrader – a legendary Hollywood screenwriter and director – spoke with Variety to promote his new film “Oh, Canada”, and revealed that he had a terrible run-in with Marty’s dog, who made a move worthy of a gangster from “Goodfellas”.
The way Schrader tells it… he went to Scorsese’s house for dinner in December – and when he went to pet a little Scottish terrier, it got full of Cujo and bit him, tearing off and eating part of his thumb!
It looks like the little dog – who is more Martin’s daughter than his – ended up with a decent-sized portion of Schrader. Luckily, Paul says MS has a live-in nurse, so he didn’t have to rush to the hospital.
It seems like everything is fine between the two old friends. By the way – Schrader dismisses the attack as no big deal. The friends first worked together on “Taxi Driver” and also collaborated on hit films like “Raging Bull” and “The Last Temptation of Christ.”
Schrader has also built quite a career outside of his ties to Scorsese…directing Richard Gere – who also stars in his new film – the classic “American Gigolo” and, more recently, directs the Oscar Isaac film “The Card Counter”.
Anyway, critics…give his new movie 2 thumbs up! Out of sympathy, if nothing else.
