“The environment was amazing and he and I had a great relationship,” Haas says of Travolta, who plays his older brother in the heist thriller. “We had a lot of ease with each other, which made this dynamic even easier.”
Lucas Haas has starred in almost every genre of film – horror, drama, you know, but light-hearted heist thriller? This was a field he had yet to test…until now.
Haas spoke to VeryFab before the release of his latest film, Money outwhere he shared why he wanted to step out of his comfort zone with this project, and the incredible experience he had working alongside his co-star, John Travolta.
“I like doing different things… that’s the spice of it all for me, most of the time it’s very difficult for me, doing something I never imagined I would do or trying to overcome, taking part in a job that I’m not even sure I can do”, Haas explained. “I also like difficulty, but I like range.”
“And in this case, I had done a movie with Randall (Emmett) where I played a serial killer, of course, you know, critical, kind of an intense position,” he added. “And then he offered me this one, and I read it and thought, ‘This isn’t the kind of movie I would normally make, but it looks like a lot of fun.’”
He continued: “And it’s just completely different for me, which is what I like to do. So, I was like, ‘Hell, let’s just have fun.’ Maybe it would be good to make a film where I wasn’t emotionally confused. A lot of the films I make are like – they’re challenging in a lot of ways… they’re often exhausting. So, it was kind of fun to just do something lighthearted, where we all had a lot of fun doing it. We had a good time. So I’m comfortable that I was able to do that.
Working with Travolta was also a promotional point, with Haas telling TooFab that he and the Grease star had an excellent relationship on set.

“John is simply superb. Clearly, he is an icon. He is a true professional, one of the great actors. So working with him is excellent. But he comes in with a big smile on his face, and gives you a big hug every morning, and you go off to work. The environment was amazing and he and I had a great relationship,” Haas said of her relationship with Travolta, who plays her older brother in the film. “We had a lot of ease with each other, which made this dynamic even easier.”
Money out ease of connection between the 2 brothers. After hanging up his boots for good, skilled thief Mason (Travolta) is lured back into action by his younger brother Shawn (Haas) with a heist that has the potential to be Mason’s biggest score to date.
“The writing was enjoyable,” Haas said enthusiastically. “My character is this guy who just thinks everything is going to work out fine, you know, ‘Hey, don’t worry about it, you understand, it’s okay.’ And he is my older brother. He is the brains behind our work. We’re a heist team that carries out these heists and he’s the brains behind it all.”
But Shawn also has a few ideas of his own in the film, some that get the team into serious trouble… like when the bank robbery he plans to set up for him and his brother forever goes wrong, leaving the team trapped and restrained. in the financial institution, surrounded by SWAT, FBI and Interpol groups.
Things get even more tense – and complicated – when Mason is forced to confront the lead negotiator, who appears to be his ex-lover, played by Sex and the metropolisin Cristina Davis.
As for pulling off some of these more intense scenes, Haas said they went through weeks of rehearsals to get everything perfect, with many of the moments in and out of the bank filmed in one location.
“We spent a few weeks there and filmed everything mostly in one location. So we were able to go from the teller area, the bank area, and the main bank area to the vaults and everything in between. We could do all of this. And we had a lot of cool people working on the movie with us,” Haas shared. “So we just got into a rhythm and practiced. It was quite simple when it came to preparation. We just went in there and did it.”

Some of the film’s action scenes, however, were a little less than perfect, with Haas remembering at one point that he and his co-star, the rapper Quavopractically obtained stuck in a real swamp.
“I remember there’s a scene where Quavo and I were driving. We drove a factor to the lake, to the swamp or something. And that was a little stressful because they have these water moccasins and stuff; we were in south Georgia,” the Babylon actor said. “So everyone was a little paranoid about it. And cars are sinking. I mean, everything worked out, but the car is sinking and you need to get out in time and swim.
“That was a bit of a pleasure,” he added. “But, you know, it worked really well and looked really cool.”
