John Travoltais proving that financial know-how can pay off big… claiming it seemed to be over Quentin Tarantinobackgrounds from when they met – and that changed their profession.
The legendary actor told the story during the recent Turner Classic Motion Pictures event celebrating the cult classic’s 30th anniversary… with Travolta joined by Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Tarantino and extras on occasion.
As JT explains… his agent said that QT was a big fan and wanted to meet with him, and John decided to go to Quentin’s house to make a big first impression.
The day started out quite bizarre… John says he knocked on the front door and realized he was at Quentin’s house – perfectly describing the structure of the apartment.
From there, the two played board games based on Travolta’s iconic movie roles… and Tarantino asked him to drop random lines like his movie characters during the game. Another highly requested by the market.
Before deciding whether or not he wanted to work with Tarantino, Travolta asked to take a look at his books… and he said they talked a little about money.
Well, it turns out it was the right move…’ Quentin called days later and gave him the Vincent Vega part in the film.
John says that when he asked why Tarantino wanted him for the role, Quentin said it’s because of the philosophical approach he ruminated on the background… showing the characteristics he wanted in the character Vega.
In fact… many people credit ‘Pulp’ for boosting Travolta’s career. The guy made some pretty dangerous movies in the late ’80s/early ’90s, and it looked like his star might wane a bit before “Pulp Fiction” put him back on A-Checklist status.
Story ethics… generally balancing a checkbook can result in so much more!
