Volkswagen achieved great success in the Euro NCAP tests, winning two awards. Specifically, the ID. Buzz Cargo took the Platinum award, while the Caddy Van won the Gold award. The two vehicles from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles impressed Euro NCAP safety and testing engineers with their performance. The identification. Buzz Cargo received a high score thanks to its assistance systems that keep the electric vehicle in its lane, dynamically adjust the vehicle’s speed and stop it in time for stationary obstacles or passing pedestrians and cyclists. The Caddy Van impressed Euro NCAP engineers with its behavior in several tests, particularly in terms of lane keeping and emergency braking.
In particular, the ID. The Buzz Cargo from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) is a multi-talented vehicle, not only when it comes to transporting goods and providing services, but also when it comes to the safety of the driver and his passengers. Tests carried out by Euro NCAP have proven that its systems operate to the highest standards. For example, it stood out in braking tests against obstacles or stationary and moving vehicles, as well as pedestrians or cyclists approaching from the side, even in the dark.
The electric van’s lane-keeping capabilities and its passenger monitoring system also worked flawlessly. The identification. The Buzz Cargo has a blind spot assistance system to make it easier for the driver, especially in the city. Furthermore, the vehicle reacts to oncoming traffic when cornering and dynamically adjusts its speed while driving, following – among other things – local speed limits thanks to a sophisticated camera and digital mapping system. Overall, the ID. Buzz Cargo impressed in the special Euro NCAP safety tests in the commercial vehicle category, achieving a score of 83% in the Safety Assist category thanks to the camera and radar systems it is equipped with. As a result, it received the award distinction: “Platinum for commercial vehicle safety”.
The Caddy Van also impressed, achieving excellent test results thanks to its integrated emergency braking assistance systems in the face of obstacles such as stopped or slow-moving traffic, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
He also performed particularly well in terms of his ability to return to his lane. Overall, Euro NCAP test engineers deemed it worthy of a 68% performance rating in the Safety Assist category, awarding it the gold award in the overall rating for 2024.
According to the company, both results of cars in Euro NCAP tests demonstrate in the most characteristic way that safety in commercial vehicles can be improved by increasing the use of assistance systems.
