How long does Shannen Doherty have to live?
A better question would be: Is Shannen Doherty quitting? The answer: of course not!
And yet, as they say, she is planning for the worst.
How long she will have to live after being diagnosed with breast cancer is unclear, so to help those she loves with an “easier transition” after her death, she is taking some drastic measures.

However, in April 2024, Shannen shared some hard truths about what’s to come. No matter when, the fact is that Shannen will die, and sooner than anyone in his orbit would want.
On her podcast, she revealed that her biggest fear is leaving her mother, Rosa. Not only leaving her alone, but also leaving her with all the things she had accumulated in life.
“My priority right now is my mom,” Shannen said. during the moving episode of her podcast “Let’s Be Clear”. “I know it will be difficult for her if I pass away before her.”
She continued: “Because it’s going to be really hard for her, I want other things to be a lot easier. I don’t want her to have a lot of things to sort out. I don’t want her to have four warehouses full of furniture.”
For fans who don’t know, Shannen has a property she purchased in Tennessee that she hopes to turn into a home for her mother and her to live together. She revealed that big dreams of hers have accumulated in four warehouses full of antiques and other items she has collected over the years.
She has not yet begun the process of donating and selling all of these items.
“We were in Tennessee and I was setting up one of the places there,” she continued. “It was very difficult and very emotional because, to a certain extent – I felt like I was giving up on the dream of building this property and building a house for myself and a house for my mother and then expanding the barn.”
Despite how difficult the process was, Shannen said letting go was “the right thing to do,” knowing it would bring her a sense of “peace.”
How long does Shannen really have to live?
In her first episode in 2024, she explained that she hopes to stay alive long enough for a medical breakthrough to be released to defeat the disease.
“I always talk about the fact that we only need three to five more years,” Shannen said when talking about how long she has left to live. “And then there will be T-cell therapy or something.”
She added: “There will be many more options that will give another five years. So in those five years, there’s a whole other set of options and eventually there will be a cure.”

Doherty has undergone mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and brain surgery since being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2015.
Her cancer went into remission in 2017, but returned in late 2019, just before the pandemic. Doherty’s oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, agreed that more work needs to be done for the actress to be completely cured.
“I always say it’s important to think of every therapy like a horse,” Dr. Piro said on the Jan. 1 podcast. “In a horse race, you want to ride each horse as long as he rides, and then ride the next horse as much as possible. You hope to get a few laps in and then there’s another new set of horses to ride to make the race even longer.
“I’m riding those horses to get to the new horses,” Doherty replied. “And I’m trying to make the one I’m in now last as long as humanly possible.”
In other words, she knows she still has a fight ahead of her — and she’s ready!
How is Shannen Doherty today?
The latest development in Doherty’s battle with cancer is that the disease spread to your bones.
“I don’t want to die,” the actress said last week for People magazine during a photo shoot held four days before Thanksgiving 2023.
“I’m not done living yet,” she added. “I’m not done loving yet.”
And then, she shared her most optimistic stance yet. “I’m not done changing things for the better.”
In addition to battling cancer, Doherty is divorcing her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko. After 11 years of marriage, she called it quits in April 2023.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted,” said Doherty’s rep, Leslie Sloane. PEOPLE on a declaration. “Unfortunately, she felt she had no other option.”
