Jay Lenowife Mavis is seriously struggling with his memory amid his ongoing battle with dementia… TMZ has learned.
In new court documents obtained by TMZ… Mavis’ lawyer, who was appointed by the court after Jay filed a petition for guardianship, says her memory is in such decline that Mavis struggles to recognize her husband and remember her own birth date .
The 77-year-old philanthropist’s memory problems are confirmed by a neurologist overseeing her care, which began after a 2018 car accident.
According to the documents, Mavis is battling “advanced dementia,” which is causing her to feel a bit disoriented. According to the court document, Mavis often thinks about her late parents – who passed away more than 20 years ago.
The lawyer describes Jay as a loving husband who is trying to ensure that Mavis will be protected financially should he predecease her.
The lawyer explains… “Estate planning is something that almost everyone needs, but when you need it, if you don’t have it, it will be too late to get it. This petition aims to give Mavis that protection with the protection of Court oversight.”
The legal advisor notes that Mavis, despite her clear “cognitive disability,” agrees to the guardianship plan – as she trusts Jay completely after 44 years of marriage.
Although Mavis’ lawyer supports Jay’s appointment as her conservator, he notes that he has not spoken to her closest relatives – her brother, Rikki Nicholson – who reportedly lives next door to the couple.
Therefore, it seems more than likely that he knows the full extent of the situation.
