She told Shepard that when she was preparing to host the 2013 MTV Film Awards, she tried out her jokes on Cohen while he was present at a cocktail party that she and her roommate hosted.
“I can easily watch it without laughing,” she said. “And there were other comedians there who were extremely friendly, but Sacha was the one I really idolized, and so I was, like, just seeing if he laughed. (After I finished), he said, ‘You’re really in trouble. You have nothing.'”
Noting that Baron Cohen had hosted the awards show before, she began “freaking out” after he allegedly gave her material a negative review.
“It sent me into a four-day panic spiral where I got other comedians to write some jokes for me,” Wilson told Shepard. “I ended up doing it at UCB, making the same jokes I would say in front of Sacha, but then all those kids laughed. So I thought, ‘Why did he do that?’
