A British mom defied the odds by giving birth to twins 22 days apart… leaving doctors and other twin moms scratching their heads.
So, get this… 22 year old Kayleigh Doyle was going through her pregnancy without complications and with normal exams after finding out that she would be a mother of 2 in October 2020. Out of nowhere, on March 15, 2021, she was hit by labor pains.
Kayleigh told British news agency SWNS that the pain was so excruciating that she wasn’t sure what was happening until her water broke, and then she went to Royal Oldham Hospital, where she was kept under observation for 5 days.
Baby Arlo was born first on March 20, 2021…a heartbreaking 17 weeks and sadly stillborn. Doctors suspected that a blood clot in the placenta may have been the cause.
Doctors didn’t expect Twin 2 to survive and initially thought the birth would happen in a few hours – but when Kayleigh’s contractions stopped, they sent her home to rest… and it was a long labor.
That second twin, baby star, only arrived 22 days later, on April 11th, via cesarean section… tipping the scales at 2 kilos. Although he faced some medical obstacles due to his premature birth – including a hole in his heart and an eye disease called retinopathy – Astro survived against all odds.
He is now 2 years old and thriving.
As for Kayleigh… she says to this day she can’t find a single soul in the UK who can beat her impressive 22-day twinning gap.
But the whole thing was a whirlwind of emotions for her… admitting her grief for Astro’s twin and at the same time raising him was difficult to say the least.
However, Kayleigh channeled her grief into something truly remarkable: she decided to train as a volunteer in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
