On Friday, the 42-year-old singer will release her highly anticipated eighth studio album – a follow-up in July 2022 Grammy winner Act I: Renaissance — what brand their first official full-album foray into country music, following previous collaborations and singles over the years.
In anticipation of what’s sure to be a soulful, bluesy, all-country album, ET has rounded up answers to some of the most pressing questions when it comes to the Houston, Texas native’s latest release.
When will Cowboy Carter release?
Beyoncé’s album will be released at midnight local time on March 29.
What kind of music does the album include?
Although Queen Bey has stated, “This is not a Country album”, what is known so far seems to refute what she is saying. In addition to its two released singles having a very distinct country sound, it has also been confirmed that the album contains a cover of “Jolene” and several iconic country artists. Furthermore, all of the album’s artwork seems to point in the direction of a sound deeply influenced by the genre.
In mid-March, the singer used her Instagram to post a long message in which she talked about becoming the first black artist to top the Hot Country Songs chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em”, as well as the album’s direction. The singer’s other new song, “16 Carriages”, also reached the Top 10 at number 9.
“I am honored to be the first black woman with a number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart. This wouldn’t have happened without the support of each and every one of you,” Beyoncé shared. “This is not a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album. This is act ii COWBOY CARTER, and I’m proud to share it with you!”
She went on to share what inspired the departure from her traditional R&B and pop style, telling her millions of followers about the idea of exploring the genre she grew up surrounded by.
“This album took over five years to produce. It was born out of an experience I had years ago where I didn’t feel welcome… and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” she wrote.
She added, “But because of this experience, I delved deeper into country music history and studied our rich musical archive. It’s great to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying voices. from some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating about our musical history.”
Although Bey didn’t specify which incident gave rise to the album, fans immediately guessed she was referring to her performance of “Daddy Lessons” at the Country Music Awards alongside the Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks) in 2016. At that time, she faced criticism from the country community, including artists who considered her a pop artist.
That same year, the Associated press reported that he chose to send “Daddy Lessons” outside of Lemonade album as a country single at the Grammy Awards. A source told the outlet that the country council rejected Beyoncé’s entry and rejected her entirely from consideration in the Best Country Song and Best Solo Performance categories.
Can I listen to any part of the album now?
