French TV giant Banijay is firing its second top executive in just over a month.
The company confirmed Selection that COO Peter Langenberg is departing, and his last day is scheduled for March 31st. Langenberg will remain with Banijay on a consultancy basis in the area of ESG (environmental, social and governance). The reasons for his departure were not disclosed.
“Banijay has been my home for eight years and it has been a pleasure to work with extremely capable leaders and producers across its global footprint. Together with Stéphane, Marco and the wider executive group, I have watched the group grow exponentially and feel extremely lucky to have been part of the business’ journey to becoming the largest European studio,” said Langenberg. “At this point, ESG has become increasingly important to us as a company and the content industry generally, and I continue to work with Edouard to drive tangible, constructive change in this space. Although I will be leaving my role as COO, it is likely not goodbye, and I welcome the new challenge and opportunity to continue working with my colleagues, some of whom I now consider friends.
Langenberg was named COO in November 2016. Prior to becoming a member of Banijay, he was vice president of business administration at Warner Bros Worldwide TV Manufacturing, a position he held from 2011 to 2016. Prior to that, he was COO of R&D Media Holding and from Three Circles. Media holding.
“As a key member of the core team, (Peter) has been an integral part of our progress and operations since the beginning. Partnering with the CEOs of our respective countries to drive productivity and expansion in the UK, Benelux, Germany, Poland, India, Israel and New Zealand, he was also tasked with the smooth running of our IT, insurance and procurement activity.” , said CEO Marco Bassetti. “A driving force behind important initiatives, along with the tripartite partnership and subsequent integration of Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India; the launch of Banijay Germany and integration between Brainpool and Banijay Germany; the administration of the Endemol Shine Group integration venture; and the introduction of Banijay Brands, he has been a key support for Stéphane, myself and the wider group. Having recently defined our E(environment) S(ocial) G(overnance) strategy, he will now take on a consultancy role to work with our newly appointed ESG Director, Edouard Minc, on the efficient implementation of our plans.”
The information arrives 5 weeks later Selection released information that Owain Walbyoff was stepping down as Banijay’s COO. The company also saw its global head of scripted writing, Christian Wikander, step down earlier this year.
