The reality stars announced their separation in front of Vanderpump Rules spinoff premiere, and now that the episodes are airing, fans are getting a look at what led to their relationship breakdown.
When ET’s Brice Sander spoke to the duo on the show’s premiere, they opened up about their relationship struggles.
“A lot happens,” Michelle acknowledged about the progress of the first season. “We’ve been together a long time and married, but you’ll see our real struggles. You will see that we have separated.”
In a separate interview, Jesse noted, “The story of us working on our marriage is a big part of not only our personal lives, but also part of the show.”
“Unfortunately, Michelle and I are currently separated, but we are co-parenting, focused on Isabella,” he added of his daughter. “Michelle recently moved, so we’re living just a few blocks away. You’ll see that happen throughout the season this year.”
Although Michelle noted that she “was scared at first” to air her relationship drama on TV, she eventually realized that “it’s good for people to realize they’re not the only ones going through real struggles.”
“I want to show that not everything is glamorous and perfect,” she said. “I want to show people that marriage is hard and, you know, some people survive and some people, unfortunately, don’t.”
As for whether they will get back together, Jesse said, “My only concern is Isabella. I hope we are best friends raising this beautiful girl. “

Although the premiere episode didn’t feature much drama with the couple, Jesse shared Jax Taylor that Michelle brought up the idea of separating. Their problems were further noticed when Michelle asked Jesse to check on Isabella and he refused.

During the second episode of the season, Jesse and Michelle’s parental differences were on display when they decided to teach their daughter how to ride a bike.
Jesse refused to watch a video Michelle sent him about the subject, which led Michelle to admit in a confessional: “I didn’t know that before he had a child he had no patience.”
In his own confessional, Jesse reflected on his wife: “I don’t know if she’s changed what she wants from me or if I’ve turned into someone she doesn’t want.”
The whole thing, Michelle told the cameras, was an example of the challenges couples face.
“No one tells you how hard it is to sustain a happy marriage while trying to raise a child and keep that love and that spark alive,” she said. “It’s very scary to think that we may never go back to the way things were.”
