Dan Dakich is offering some free advice to any players in this weekend’s Sweet 16 looking for tips on how to prepare for the big games… simply saying, “Don’t start thinking you’re a star!”
The former Indiana Hoosiers guard said in conversation with TMZ Sports this week it’s easy for players who have made it this far in the NCAA Tournament to start to lose focus.
He said when teams return to campus and feel all the love – it’s common for players to get big heads… and then falter when the lights come back on for the next round of the tournament.
“Now, all of a sudden, man, the campus is different,” he told us. “The campus is alive – and they’re alive because of you! And you have to be able to deal with that bad boy, and it’s not easy.”
Dakich suggested that coaches implement multiple meetings a day — he actually referred to it as “three a day” — in order to make it clear to players that they need to remember what it took to get them to where they are. we are currently in.
“I’m telling you,” he said, “it’s a big deal.”
