Becky Lynch It is Seth Rollins has a pro wrestling love story for the ages, and the celebrated star is opening up about their romance and the family they built together in her new memoir, Becky Lynch: The man: not your average girl.
Lynch – whose real name is Rebecca Quin – recently spoke with ET’s Ash Crossan and got candid about how she first realized she had feelings for Rollins.
“I feel like there was always a deep connection with him. Like, there was always a bond,” Lynch, 37, reflected. “He used to tease me, but in such a loving way. I would always run up to him and tell him these stupid jokes and he would tell me I was the worst and then we would leave. separate ways. But I would always look forward to seeing him.
“He was the person, if we had a joint pay-per-view (event), that I would most want to see,” she continued. “I just loved being with him.”
Lynch recalled how towards the end of 2019 their “schedules started to blend a lot more” and that meant spending a lot more time together.
“I would see him a lot more. And whenever we would get together, we would have these conversations and we were both going through things in our own relationships,” Lynch recalled. “I was unceremoniously turned into a ghost at the time, (which was) for the better, thank God… and we bonded over those things.”
“So we were single and free and had no idea of any attachment, and one thing led to another and here we are, five years later,” Lynch said.
The couple began dating in January 2019, and the couple went public with their relationship the following April. In August 2019, they got engaged and welcomed their daughter, Roux, in December 2020. The pair tied the knot in June 2021.
Reflecting on their connection, Lynch said she and 37-year-old Rollins — whose real name is Colby Lopez — share their dedication to art and sport and support each other’s careers.
“We think about wrestling, we love wrestling, we are always there for each other and we understand each other. We’re always there to help each other with ideas, so it’s become the best relationship in every way possible because we understand each other so much,” she said. “And so he’s just the best father and the best husband.”
“He is an incredible father. He’s so patient and he’s so good at joking and explaining things and he’s a teacher by nature, so he loves teaching,” she added.
Speaking about his 3-year-old daughter, Lynch marveled: “She’s amazing, man! She’s fun and smart and funny and she’s sweet and that’s everything. She’s powerful! We call her Mob Boss Roux because she runs a tight ship .”
For Lynch, becoming a mother has changed her perspective on life and business.
“Well, that’s my number one right now,” Lynch said of Roux. “I look and she’s 3 and she’s talking and she has a personality and she has her tastes and you just say, ‘She’ll never be a baby again. She’ll never be a little baby again.’ So you kind of have to learn to enjoy the moments and the phases while you have them.”
“You learn that there are things so much bigger than yourself, what you want, your goals and your dreams,” she continued. “You have to put this little person and their life before yours, but you want to do it and it changes you.”
According to Lynch, when it comes to professional wrestling, “You have to be selfish to be successful in this business. You have to think about your storyline, your character. But now I think, ‘OK, how can the business grow? ? How can we make this better and how can I show her that you can do anything you set your mind to and that there are no limits just because you were born a certain gender?'”
To that end, Lynch and Rollins take their daughter with them when they travel for work, and she becomes accustomed to their unique careers.
“We take her with us, so she sees us on trucks and on posters and other things around the arena,” Lynch said. “She’s like, ‘There’s daddy’s truck and there’s mommy’s truck’…and she sees our action figures and stuff like that. She knows we’re on TV.”
She also knows that her mother and father “get upset about working.”
“She’s like, ‘Are all adults upset about working?’ And it’s like, ‘No, Uncle Josh works at the gym and Aunt Jen, she works on a computer.’ So it’s like trying to explain that not all jobs, when you get older, will involve getting hit.”
In addition to her new outlook on life, it appears she has had a change of heart regarding her falling out with former friend Charlotte Flair.
The pair – who had long been close companions – famously developed a rift between them that resulted in a backstage confrontation in October 2021. However, Lynch says tensions cooled in the intervening years.
“I don’t know if it will ever go back to where it was,” Lynch said of their relationship. “It’s going to be something different, you know? We’re fine. We’re fine now, and I think those are the trials and tribulations of life, you know? You fight with people and hopefully you can get to a point where you can own up to your mistakes and move on.”
“I think with her there was always a lot of love… we grew up together,” Lynch added. “There is only love, even when we were fighting.”
For Lynch, it’s possible that going through something like the public breakdown of a friendship could actually work to strengthen that friendship in the long run.
“I think sometimes they end up being some of the best relationships because you go through the mud with them and come out the other side,” she said, “and you have so much more understanding.”
Fans can listen more about his life with Rollinshis in-ring career and his personal stories when Lynch’s new memoir, Becky Lynch: The man: not an ordinary girl, comes out March 26th.
