Sony Footage has acquired Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller “Caught Stealing,” starring Austin Butler.
The film follows Hank Thompson, a burnt-out former baseball player, as he unwittingly plunges into a savage fight for survival in the prison underworld of 1990s New York City.
“I’m excited to join my old friends at Sony Footage to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-filled rollercoaster journey to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of New York filmmakers,” said Oscar-nominated director Aronofsky, whose credits include “The Whale,” “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan.”
Charlie Huston will write the script, based on his book of the same title. Protozoa will produce.
“Darren is without a doubt one of the best audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these fantastic books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star in was too exciting an opportunity not to be a part of,” said President of Sony Footage’s Movement Image Group, Sanford Panitch . .
Butler was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his role in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.” He can currently be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune: Part 2” and the Apple TV miniseries “Masters of the Air.” Butler will next star in Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders” and Sony 3000 Footage’s film adaptation of “Metropolis on Fire,” which he will also produce with David Heyman and Shane Salerno.
Aronofsky is repped by CAA, Narrative and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. Butler is repped by WME, Nameless Content, Sloane, Supply, Weber & Dern and The Lede Company. Huston is repped by Katz Golden Lerner and Writers Home.
The deadline was the first to report the information.
