Genesis will use the New York Auto Show 2024 this week to unveil a full-size electric SUV concept called Neolun.
It is known that the automaker is working on exactly this vehicle, which will supposedly carry the name GV90 into production, and the Neolun could be a sample of what is to come. The prototypes have has already been seen ahead of a market launch likely next year.
The name Neolun is a portmanteau of the Greek neo and the Latin luna, which translates as “new moon”. The aim is to signify Genesis’ aim to provide technological innovation in its future vehicles.
The concept features clean surfaces marked only by light bars representing headlights and taillights, as well as a few character lines. Genesis creative director Luc Donckerwolke calls this reductive design, a process, he said, that purposefully “eliminates any unnecessary details.” Things like roof racks and side steps are all stored inside the body and extend out when needed.

The design even eliminates B-pillars. Access to the cabin is via a pair of bus-style doors, similar to those you’ll find in a Rolls-Royce, just like the old Lincoln Continental Bus Door Editionand opening these doors on the Neolun concept reveals a large entry point with ample access to four individual seats.
The interior design, in traditional concept style, is probably too wild to be produced, but there are elements we could see in future Genesis models. This includes the digital gauge cluster likely being replaced by a head-up display and perhaps a small screen on the steering wheel. The vehicle also has a radiant heating system where surfaces like dashboard, floors, door linings and more are used to heat the cabin rather than relying on the conventional method of blowing hot air. Premium materials like cashmere, soft leather and real wood trim complete the cabin.
While the concept’s four seats, divided into two rows, could be an option on any future production model, the standard configuration will likely be three rows of seats. Interestingly, Genesis has indicated that the carriage doors could go into production. The automaker said the project had been developed to the point where production would be “feasible.”
The New York Auto Show opens its doors to the media on Wednesday, and Genesis will also take advantage of the event to launch a performance sub-brand called Magma. The automaker plans to offer a Magma version of every vehicle in its lineup, potentially including the full-size SUV.
