Cannes-based annual market MipTV has confirmed its move to London, ending months of guesswork.
Selection confirmed that the market will take place alongside the London exhibitions next February. It will be located at the five-star Savoy Lodge, as well as the IET London exhibition venue located at Savoy Place in the West Finish area.
An RX spokesperson instructed Selection the occasion may have a special format that MipTV and confirmed that the Cannes confabulation could have its final version this spring. But although MipTV will move to the UK, RX said it will continue to host the Mipcom autumn event in Cannes in October.
The move to London will likely be free for clients and will not require a fixed price for delegates. “It will be different to MipTV, so it will not be an exhibition market, but rather focused on networking, exhibitions and conferences,” said an RX representative, adding that it will serve international distributors and companies that do not have a workplace or base in London. Although RX has chosen to organize its event simultaneously with the London exhibitions, there is no agreement between the two events. The spokesperson said the Mip convention is being designed to be “complementary” to the London exhibitions, which simply wrapped a banner version earlier this month.
The Cannes Collection, a competition that works together with MipTV, will not be transferred to London, said the spokesperson.
The size of the London event will be much smaller than MipTV because the Savoy Lodge and EIT venue can only host 1,300 people at a time. By comparison, the Cannes market – the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès – can receive up to 30 thousand employees.
Selectionsister exit Deadline reported for the first time the information about MipTV moving to London.
