The door Kate Winslet infamously attached to the end of “Titanic” has sold for a high price…beating out other impressive movie memorabilia at auction.
The wooden slab that played a role Leonardo DiCaprioThe on-screen death recently sold for a staggering $718,750 during Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event – making it the most expensive sale at the auction.
The door – which is actually a door frame, according to the auction notes – was not the only “Titanic” memorabilia sold at the event. The light purple and pink chiffon dress that Kate wore as Rose in most of the film’s sinking scenes also sold…but it only cost $125,000.
Granted, the dress is much less controversial than the infamous shipwreck, so it makes sense that it sold for less. Remember, “Titanic” fans debated for decades whether Jack could fit in the door next to Rose rather than freezing to death at the end of the film.
Director james cameron even weighed in on the debate… doubling down on his decision to have Jack sacrifice himself – as it was more in line with his character.
As for the rest of the auction… Harrison FordThe whip from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” came in second place, selling for a whopping $525,000. Jack NicholsonThe ax from “The Shining” was also auctioned, but like the dress from “Titanic”, it only raised US$125,000.
Other famous movie items downloaded during the auction include Tobey MaguireThe black suit from “Spider-Man 3” Wayne Knightcan of “Jurassic Park” shaving cream and Bill Murraythe bowling ball from “Kingpin.”
Was there enough room for Jack???
Of course, since this is being brought up again…we have to ask. Did Jack have to die?
