Terrifying video of a mass shooting in Russia is going viral online… and paints a dramatic picture of the devastating attack that left dozens dead and many more injured.
Footage of Friday’s chaotic scene at Crocus City Hall – a huge concert venue on the outskirts of Moscow – captures the sound of gunshots echoing throughout the cavernous venue.
Another clip shows people falling to the floor, huddled behind chairs in the hallway as the sound of gunfire reverberates through the room.
Even worse, a large fire was lit in the building – easy to see from all sides of the building – and the flames themselves appeared to burn brightly for a while based on video recorded outside the building. Reports say that grenades and/or bombs were detonated in this bloodbath.
Russia’s Federal Security Service – the country’s organization responsible for internal security – says more than 40 people died in the attack and more than 100 were injured.
The Associated Press – citing Russian media outlets – reports that several armed men entered the building and threw explosives, causing the fire to start. Uniformed men allegedly entered the hall and began shooting at the crowd watching Picnic, a popular rock band. The Russian Foreign Ministry calls this a terrorist attack.
Some videos show as many as four gunmen shooting people at close range… and it appears police have detained at least one potential suspect – seen in the video searching a man with his hands on the side of a vehicle.
By the way… it appears the US and other major Western powers could have seen this coming – with warnings to their citizens issued in recent weeks to stay away from crowded areas in Moscow.
It is not yet clear whether this attack was triggered by any political motives… but state authorities are investigating it as an act of terror.
