Here’s what Nickelodeon and Dan Schneider stated at the time
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schneider was a former actor. He found Albie Hecht, fellow producer and former president of Nickelodeon Entertainment, who hired him to work on the comedy show ‘All That’ in the 1990s.
The channel reports that after four seasons, Schneider left the series before returning to revive the series in 2001.
From then on, the producer’s resume at Nick would grow. It would ultimately include shows like ‘The Amanda Show’, ‘Drake & Josh’, ‘Zoey 101’ and more.
However, on March 26, 2018, Schneider’s decades-long stint at Nick would come to an end. According to the outlet, the Nickelodeon producer and Schneider “agreed not to extend” their “current agreement.”
“After many conversations about next directions and future opportunities, Nickelodeon and our longtime creative partner Dan Schneider/Schneider’s Bakery have agreed not to extend the current agreement,” Nickelodeon and Schneider reportedly shared in a joint statement, per Deadline. “As several Schneider’s Bakery projects are nearing completion, both sides agreed that this is a natural time for Nickelodeon and Schneider’s Bakery to pursue other opportunities and projects.”
Nickelodeon reportedly thanked Schneider for creating “a series of enduring and innovative kids’ TV shows” for Nick “over the years.”
“We thank Dan and the producers, executives and social media team at Schneider’s Bakery for their immeasurable contributions to Nickelodeon and wish them the best in their future endeavors. And Dan and Schneider’s Bakery are proud of the work they’ve done with Nickelodeon and will always be big fans of the network,” Nickelodeon added, according to the channel.
Allegations were reportedly stirred about Dan Schneider in 2018
According to Nellie Andreeva, 2018 Deadline report, “there were multiple complaints of abusive behavior against Schneider filed by members of his team.”
Andreeva added that “Schneider was under a cloud of suspicion.” This was due to “the treatment of some younger stars on their shows.”
Additionally, the now-deleted tweets from the apparent interest in Nick’s child stars’ feet and toes “eyebrows raised.”
Andreeva also noted that Schneider was accused of working long hours and having “well-documented temper issues for years.”
Business Insider adds that several investigations were also launched into Schneider during his time at Nick. Schneider claimed that a 2013 investigation did not “ban” him from working with the Nick actors. However, he “chose to grade” the cast “in his office.”
Additionally, the outlet notes that a 2017 investigation — sparked amid the #MeToo Movement — produced “no evidence of inappropriate sexual behavior” by Schneider. However, it “found evidence of verbal abuse in the workplace”.
Here’s What Was Revealed About Dan Schneider on ‘Quiet On Set’ and His Response
As The Shadow Room Previously reported, ‘Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV’ aired on Sunday, March 17th and Monday, March 18th. The four-part docu-series exposed the toxic work culture of popular children’s shows from the 1990s to the 2000s.
Former ‘Drake & Josh’ star Drake Bell has revealed that he was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Nick’s speech coach at age 15.
Bell eventually explained that Schneider was initially unaware of the incidents. However, he offered Bell his full support after becoming aware. However, the docu-series also showed accounts from several former Nick employees who alleged that Schneider fostered an “uncomfortable” work environment. Furthermore, they claimed that Schneider’s sketches “sexualized” his child cast and even included racist jokes.
In an initial response to the docuseries, a spokesperson for Schneider appeared to defend his actions during his time at Nick.
“Everything that happened on the shows Dan directed was carefully vetted by dozens of adults involved and approved by the network. If there were scenes or outfits that were inappropriate in any way, they would have been flagged and blocked by this multifaceted scrutiny,” the statement read, per USA today. “…If there was a real problem with the scenes that some people, now years later, are ‘sexualizing’, they would be taken down, but they are not, they are shown constantly all over the world today, enjoyed by both children and children. . country.”
However, Schneider would eventually admit that he “(owes) some people a strong apology” in a recently released interview.
