Maya Rodolfo Understands why fans are asking so much to get one Bridesmaids sequence.
Talking to ET ahead of the Season 2 premiere of his Apple TV+ show, Withdrawthe 51 year old man Saturday night live alum addressed recent comments made by her co-star and friend, Kristen Wiigabout the potential for a sequel to the 2011 comedy.
“It was never a conversation,” said Wiig, 50, The Hollywood Reporter. “That story had an end and it’s so dear to me for 10 million reasons, and I think it’s okay to just exist in the world as it is.”
In response, Rudolph — who starred as Lilian, the bride in the film directed by Paul Feig — said he respects Wiig’s decision and that he has no say in whether a Bridesmaids sequence advances.
“I saw that. I mean, if that’s how she feels…” the actress and comedian said. “I don’t know, I feel like people are always looking for some kind of answer from me, like, it’s not up to me.”
Rudolph added, “We had a lot of fun doing it, so I feel like I get it.”
To date, the film is Judd Apatow’s highest-grossing project, grossing $288 million worldwide at the box office, according to Mojo Box Office. Additionally, Wiig and her writing partner, Annie Mumolo, received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Bridesmaids also starred Rose Byrne, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy – who received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
As for whether she’ll revive another character she’s known for — her portrayal of Vice President Kamala Harris in SNL – the actress certainly isn’t ruling out a return to Studio 8H at Rockefeller Plaza, saying it could be Harris’ “time to shine.”
It would be like coming home for the star, who spent seven years of her life on the show and developed close relationships with everyone in the cast. So much so that when asked she couldn’t identify any favorite memories, she said, “I have a lot.”
“I feel like I didn’t realize how young we were and I didn’t realize how much we were able to play together,” she said when looking back on her time on the comedy series. “And that’s the coolest thing about this network of people. There are so many wonderful people that I am lucky to have in my life because of this show.”
Another thing she is grateful for are the opportunities that SNL provided after his departure in 2007. In addition to Bridesmaidsthe actress starred Grown Up, Disenchanted, Boca Grande, The Good Place and more. More recently, fans have been eating up her role as Molly Wells – the ex-wife of a tech billionaire whose divorce made her the third richest woman in the world – in Withdraw.
When it comes to Season 2, Rudolph is promising even more jokes and pranks, some in the same vein as his parody in Hot in the first season. During this part, Rudolph’s character had a hilarious meltdown while eating chicken wings with host Sean Evans. Outside the show, the scene became a meme and generated an idea of how to open the new edition of the show.
Rudolph also teased a possible love connection between her character and Arthur, played by Nat Faxon. The pair had a certain unspoken chemistry throughout season 1 that will definitely return in season 2.
“I’m joking that there’s definitely some flirting there and some connection and I think they’re both looking,” she said.
Withdraw the second season premieres on Apple TV+ on April 3.
