Marlon Wayans is speaking out after his ex, Brittany Moreland, filed for full custody of their 1-year-old daughter. On Thursday, the comedian, 51, responded to Moreland’s lawsuits while speaking to The Shadow Room.
The actor has two sons, Kai, 23, and Shawn, 21, with his ex, Angelica Zachary, and daughter Axl, whom he and Moreland welcomed in 2022. Wayans signed a voluntary declaration of paternity on December 13, 2022, just one day after the baby girl was born.
“All love, all God. The baby is no secret. Mommy is posted. But I chose to keep the baby’s private life private,” he said. “It’s nobody’s business. Social media is toxic and dangerous, and I would like to keep it alone.”
However, Wayans said he did not like being referred to as a “visitor” to his daughter.
“It’s a classic case of a good, loving, responsible father shelling out more than $18,000 a month for a 1-year-old, and an entitled woman deciding she wants more,” Wayans told the outlet. “My mother and mother would have gone crazy for $2,000.”
“You pay all this money a month and you’re called a ‘visitor’? Do the math. That’s an illusion. I’ll let the lawyers and God do what they do,” he continued. “I will be creating art with a broken heart. I have nothing but love. Even when it’s bad, it’s good…it’s GOD.”
According to court documents obtained by ET, Moreland, 34, filed a petition to determine paternal relationship to Wayans in the state of California. Moreland seeks legal and physical custody of Axl, but asks that the actor be granted visitation rights.
Moreland, who is listed as an “unemployed graduate student” in California, is also requesting that Wayans cover “reasonable pregnancy and birth expenses” and attorney and legal fees. In a statement of income and expenses, she listed $22,080 in estimated monthly expenses and proposed needs.
“I had two children before that. I’ve never had this problem,” Wayans lamented to The Shadow Room about Moreland’s request. “I am a good man, with a good heart and a strong sense of responsibility, but I refuse to be used and discredited.”
