“Luckily Gilmore 2″ is apparently being developed by Adam Sandler and there’s even a script, Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald revealed during a radio interview on “Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan.” McDonald said he had a recent falling out with Sandler, who unexpectedly pulled the first draft of a sequel to his 1996 sports comedy classic.
“I saw Adam (Sandler) about two weeks ago and he told me, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this,’” McDonald said. “I mentioned, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about it’ and shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’. Maybe it’s best to omit that (from this audio), because I don’t want to be a liar, but he showed me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be amazing.’ So, it’s underway. Followers demand it, damn it!

Sandler starred in and co-wrote “Completely Happy Gilmore,” directed by Dennis Dugan. The sports comedy remains one of Sandler’s most popular comedies. He plays the eponymous Happy Gilmore, a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers he also has golf experience. Happy enters the golf circuit to earn money and save his grandmother’s house and faces a vain professional named Shooter McGavin, played by McDonald. The supporting cast also included “Modern Family” favorites Julie Bowen and Carl Weathers.
Weathers passed away last month, and Sandler was one of the first distinguished actors to pay tribute to his late co-star on social media.
“A very nice man. Good father. Beautiful actor. Beautiful athlete. So much fun to be around all the time,” Sandler wrote of his “Happy Gilmore” co-star and friend. “Sensitive as hell. Loyal as hell. Humorous as hell. He liked his children more than anything. What man!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best time with him whenever we saw him. Just like his entire family, Carl will always be known as a true legend.
“Happy Gilmore” premiered in 1996 and grossed nearly $40 million at the worldwide box office. The film helped Sandler become one of the biggest comedy stars of the last decade, including titles like “Billy Madison,” “The Waterboy,” “The Wedding Singer,” “Big Daddy” and more. Common Footage released “Feliz Gilmore”.
