You shoot a president and suddenly you can’t buy yourself time off…that’s John Hinckley Jr.the complaint of, essentially, after his last folk singing show was cancelled.
The man who opened fire on the president Ronald Reagan – and also injured press secretary James Bradya Secret Service agent and police officer – turned guitar-playing folk singer who actually gets booked for shows, but they tend to get canceled before he gets on stage.
Hinckley is complaining about his canceled latest show at the Huxley Hotel in Naugatuck, CT, where he was supposed to perform on March 30…until the venue announced last week that it was pulling the plug. He told the NY Post: “I think it’s fair to say I’m a victim of cancel culture.”
Referring to all of his canceled shows, he added, “This keeps happening over and over again.”

Last week, Hotel Huxley posted on its IG page, “You guessed it: postponed until further notice (they’re killing us here).” That last line appears to be a reference to the massive backlash the venue was receiving for hiring Hinckley – but it also seems distasteful considering the show’s date would have marked 43 years, exactly, since the Reagan assassination attempt.

Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and spent nearly 30 years in a mental health hospital before being released in 2016.
Since then, he picked up the guitar and actually released music on his YouTube channel.
His first show was scheduled for Brooklyn in 2022, but again, it was canceled due to backlash – and this followed his other planned shows in Georgia, Illinois and Virginia… where he now lives in Williamsburg.
