An episode of the “Power Reality Angels” podcast from earlier this year resurfaced in recent days with actress Lola Glaudini telling a story from the set of the movie “Blow,” where Johnny Depp allegedly berated her for laughing all the time. one takes. Glaudini, who was in the background of a scene in which Depp delivers a monologue, said she was instructed by “Blow” director Ted Demme to “burst out laughing” when Depp mentioned one of her songs during the take.
“(Depp) says his monologue. I hear the cue and go haha, I give a giant giggle or something,” said Glaudini, recalling that he performed the scene this way in several other takes. “Johnny Depp, after they say downplay it, comes up to me, walks up to me, sticks his finger in my face and says, ‘Who the hell do you think you are? Who the hell do you think you are? Shut up. I’m here and I’m trying to say my songs and you’re losing focus. You fool. Oh, now, oh, now isn’t that so funny? Now can you shut up? Now can you shut up? The silence you are in now, that’s how you keep it, damn it.
“The first day, on set, I never met him,” Glaudini added. “This was my first studio film, I had only done indies until then. And I have the star that I idolized, that I’m so excited to work with, that hit me in the face. The only thing that went through my head was, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.’”
Depp reportedly gave “an unapologetic apology” to Glaudini when the two met on set later in the day. Glaudini said she spoke to her father after Depp allegedly yelled at her and he told her: “You have two decisions now: you two can say fuck you, fuck you, and I’m not going to talk to love. That’s it, otherwise you’ll never let him see you sweat.
Glaudini said she chose the latter option when Depp allegedly came to her and “he said, ‘You know, so before I was really in my head and staying in character, I’m doing this Boston accent, and it’s actually fucking with me. So I’m a little tense and stuff. So I just wanted to make sure we’re okay and everything?’”
“I just tested it and thought, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about? Actually, what are you talking about? Completely legal. Because I was like… my dad said, ‘Don’t let them see you sweat.’ So that was it”, added Gluadini.
She also said on the podcast that Demme “didn’t come out and say anything” when she was allegedly told off by Depp and “after we broke up, I was like an outcast. Nobody wanted to talk to me, because I’m the bitch he criticized.
Asked to comment on Glaudini’s story, says Depp’s consultant Selection: “Johnny always prioritizes good working relationships with the cast and crew and this account differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time.”
Depp’s consultant mentioned Samuel Sarkar, who was credited as a sound technician on “Blow” and also worked with Depp on films such as “Worry and Loathing in Las Vegas” and “Chocolat.” Most recently, Sarkar produced Depp’s film “Minamata” together with the actor.
Sarkar instructed Selection in a press release about Glaudini’s story: “As a sound individual, you are constantly hearing what is happening on set, hearing noises, hearing conversations. The truth is, I would specifically listen to Johnny’s audio to check for interference, both during rehearsals and during the take. I’ve never heard anything like it – and it was an exceptional occasion.”
Glaudini’s representatives did not immediately respond. Selection request for comment regarding statements by Sarkar and Depp’s consultant.
