Mini’s redesigned Cooper hatchback goes on sale later this year as a 2025 model, although only the gas powered version will initially arrive in the USA. Time for youhe electric version has not been announced, but will likely be in 2026 when EV production begins in Mini factory in the UK. Currently the EV is built exclusively in China.
The gas version was revealed in February, but only in base and Cooper S versions. The high-performance John Cooper Works version is still in testing, and we have new spy photos of a prototype.
Clear indications that this is a JCW include the extra intakes on the front fascia, front splitter, chunky side skirts, roof-mounted rear wing, and red brake calipers. There’s also a rear diffuser with a single exhaust tip coming out of the center.
The electric Cooper will also receive the JCW treatment, and a prototype of this model has also been spotted.

The electric version of the redesigned Cooper is based on a newly developed dedicated EV platform, while the gas version is essentially a major upgrade of the previous Cooper. That means the gas-powered JCW should feature its predecessor’s 2.0-liter turbo-4, perhaps with a bit more power than the older model’s 228 hp.
Drive must be made only to the front wheels, through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Don’t plan on a manual option. Mini confirmed the 2024 model year as the last for the manual. The limited edition JCW 1to6 2024 Edition launched last May marked the end of the Mini’s transmission.
A Redesigned JCW Countryman The 312 hp package has already been revealed for the 2025 model. It hits US dealerships in May, priced at just under US$48,000. A JCW convertible is also in the works.
