A redesigned version of Mercedes-Benz AMG GT sports cars hit dealerships this spring, but the lineup isn’t complete yet.
The GT, which has grown to allow for 2+2 seating, arrives in GT 55 and GT 63 versions, both powered by AMG’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. The engine delivers 469 hp in the GT 55 and 577 hp in the GT 63. A 9-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive complete the drivetrain package for both versions.
It is known that at least two more classes are arriving, one positioned higher and the other lower. The latter was revealed on Tuesday as the GT 43. The former will be a plug-in hybrid likely dubbed the GT 63 SE Performance. It will be launched later this year and will have more than 800 hp.
The GT 43 has 416 hp, courtesy of a 2.0-liter turbo-4 shared with the related AMG SL43 convertible which arrived for 2023 (as well as the AMG C 43 sedan). The GT 43 arrives for the 2025 model year, although the specific timing for its U.S. sales launch has not been announced.

Despite the loss of four cylinders, the GT 43 is no slouch. It will go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach a controlled speed of 174 mph. Aiding performance is an electrified turbocharger design similar to that found in Formula 1.
An electric motor powered by a 48-volt mild hybrid system and measuring just 1.6 inches wide is integrated directly into the turbocharger, situated between the turbine wheel on the exhaust side and the compressor wheel on the intake side. It accelerates the compressor at low revs, before the exhaust gases take over, reducing turbo lag and, as a result, making the engine more responsive.
The GT 43 also skips the all-wheel drive system of other GT variants, meaning traction is only to the rear wheels. The smaller engine and lack of an all-wheel drive system should save considerable weight compared to the other GT variants, although no total weight has been revealed.

The GT 43 also loses the AMG Ride Control suspension with adjustable damping as standard, although it is on the options list. The Race mode of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive mode selector is also missing here.
The GT 43 is visually differentiated from the GT 55 and GT 63 by its unique front and rear ends, as well as round exhaust tips instead of the square tips of the V-8 versions. There are also different wheel patterns for the GT 43, with the standard set measuring 19 inches in diameter.
Pricing information has not been announced, but a huge discount on Starting price $136,050 of the GT 55 is likely. As a guide, the SL 43 starts at $111,050. All prices include a $1,150 destination fee.
