Kristen Wiig is still pinching himself to work with the comedy legend Carol Burnett in your new show, Palma Real.
Speaking with ET’s Nischelle Turner to talk about the series, the SNL alumna, 50, said that when it came to the duo, she felt unbelievably honored to work with the seven-time Emmy winner.
“I literally said today, ‘I still can’t believe we work together,'” Wiig said. For the comedian and actress – who started Saturday night live It is will return to the host on April 6 — Starring alongside Burnett, 90, was a dream she’s not even sure is real.
“I want to check if it’s her. I’m like, ‘It’s Carol, right? Yeah, I mean, she’s Carol.’ And to me, just with comedy sketches and everything she’s done for every person, every woman, she’s a huge inspiration,” said the Bridesmaids raved. “It was the crew, everyone. I mean, she’s just a dream.”
Blushing at the comments, the comedy legend said she was also impressed by the opportunity to work with Wiig, as well as other members of the show’s cast, including Allison Janney It is Laura Dern.
“Oh, stop,” Burnett responded. “When I found out who was going to be in this project, I didn’t even have to read it – I got to work with Kristen. I get to work with Allison and, well, I know and – I have to say, I’m thrilled. Maybe it’s a spoiler, but I have so many wonderful scenes with this one and I’m a fan of yours.
Clearly a big fan of hers Palma Real counterpart, the iconic Carol Burnett Show Star said he didn’t even need to look at the script to know it would appear on the project’s small screen.
“Being able to be in the same room and film with her is just, it was –,” Burnett said, interrupting affectionately as she looked at her co-star.
The series follows Wiig’s character, Maxine, who ambitiously sets out to join one of the most exclusive country clubs in America in 1969. Burnett stars as Norma, an elderly, well-connected woman who Maxine trusts with her goal of infiltration. at Palm. High beach society. Burnett says the role, which puts her character in a coma for the first few episodes, was a no-brainer for her as someone who is “really good at sleeping.”
“I got paid lying in bed. I got up, put on makeup and then went to bed again. I mean, it was a slam dunk,” Burnett joked.
As for whether or not the cast members will return for a second season, the comedians said it’s their intention to bring Palm Royale back for more episodes and that they even have someone in mind for a cameo.
“We’re waiting,” Wiig said.
“I will say I was surprised. So it’s a good cliffhanger,” Burnett added in the Season 1 finale. “And so for my character, I would like to be with Bradley Cooper, but I don’t know if that would work.”
