Making space with Hoda Kotb
Keith Morrison says his stepson Matthew Perry thought he was overcoming his addiction before his sudden death… but in reality, he says he knew he really wasn’t.
In his first interview since Matthew’s death in October, the “Dateline” correspondent – who is married to Matt’s mother, Susana – recently revealed in Hoda Kotbpodcast that the beloved actor felt he was overcoming his addiction and in a good place… happy, even.
Keith also acknowledged that Matt had a particularly difficult struggle with alcohol and drugs – something we all knew. He described Matthew’s battle with addiction as “virulent”… noting that the disease has pursued him relentlessly over the years.
With that in mind, Keith says he wasn’t entirely surprised by Matt’s untimely end. Still, he added… “He didn’t get his third act, and that’s not fair.” It’s a dark talk.
As we reported… Mathew’s autopsy revealed he had been clean for 19 months… but his death was ruled an accident caused by the acute effects of ketamine.
MP was using ketamine infusion therapy to treat his depression and anxiety — and his last treatment occurred a week before his death, which TMZ reported at the time.
Matthew was found unconscious in his jacuzzi…drowning and coronary artery disease were later highlighted as additional factors in his official cause of death.
Keith admitted he’s still struggling with the grief over Matthew’s death… but confessed that his wife/Matt’s mother is having a harder time with it all, even after so many months. According to Keith, Matthew and Suzanne were closer than ever shortly before the actor’s passing.
Of course, Keith was also one of the first family members to arrive at the scene of Matt’s death.
