In fact, this inter-state racket of ‘sextortion’ was going on for a long time. Under this, women calling themselves beauticians used to befriend businessmen on dating apps. Then they would meet them in a hotel and establish a relationship and would extort lakhs of rupees by blackmailing them. Preliminary police investigation has revealed more than 15 women. One of them is a lawyer. These people were working under the direction of a woman lodged in a Gujarat jail on murder charges. During investigation, the police found that this gang had filed three cases in Goa on false rape allegations.
The victimized businessmen were accused of rape when they were blackmailed after having sexual relations and refused to give money. Some women from Gujarat lodged similar complaints several times, which made the police suspicious. In all the cases, she alleged that she was raped, but the investigation turned out to be false. On August 22, a beautician, her cousin and driver had reached the police station in North Goa in connection with a similar case. Then on the same day, outside the police station, the woman made a deal worth Rs 2 lakh with a businessman. Two days later, the same people reached another police station to complain. This time the woman’s cousin claimed herself as the victim. At the same time, the beautician called himself his friend. She claimed that she met a contractor from Gujarat on a flight to Goa, where she was taken to a resort and raped. The contractor was also arrested by the police, but after a few days another businessman from Gujarat also turned out to be an accused.
The police officer said that all these complaints were similar and the profile of the women was also similar. All the accused were from Gujarat and so were the victims. The police became suspicious and the entire matter came to light when the investigation began. Investigation revealed that the swindled woman had entered into an agreement with a businessman for Rs 2 lakh and a demand of Rs 15 lakh was made from him. When he refused, he was threatened with a case, but outside the police station the businessman made a deal worth Rs 2 lakh.
