How does call forwarding scam happen
There is only one way to do this scam. Criminals resort to different stories to carry out this. These people call as Internet service providers or mobile network operators. They often target people on the pretext of courier services.
If there is internet problem in the phone then the criminals tell the people that there is a problem with their SIM card. They have to call a number to get it fixed. Similarly, criminals often give a number and ask to dial if the courier is not found. But, their path is the same. In these stories, the criminal is asked to prefix 401 with the given number to get rid of the problem.
Let us tell you that call forwarding is activated only by putting 401 code in front of a number. That is, every call coming to your number will go to that number. Additionally, it starts forwarding confirmation calls or voice OTPs. Then as soon as the criminals get your number, they start trying to trace your messaging app or bank account.

The most dangerous aspect of this scam is that the victim himself does not know that his phones are being forwarded. Because no messages or calls are received on the victim’s phone, the criminal is able to steal money because all numbers are forwarded to the dialed number.
