Wave of knife attacks
Firearm attacks are extremely rare in China, as gun ownership is strictly prohibited in the Asian giant. But in recent years there has been a surge in knife attacks.
In September, a Japanese student succumbed to injuries in a knife attack in Shenzhen. The tragedy caused outrage in Tokyo.
In May, a man stabbed nine people – eight of whom succumbed – in the city of Xiaogan, in the central province of Hubei.
