Fox 11 Los Angeles
A luxury yacht has sunk off the coast of Los Angeles… taking on water after a ton of fireworks exploded from the deck.
In a scene straight out of the movie “Battleship,” firefighters descended on the Marina del Rey harbor Wednesday night to battle a blaze engulfing a 120-foot yacht … with news crews on hand to film the blaze.
Check out the video… the firefighters gave it their all, but it’s clearly a lost cause, with smoke billowing from the ship.
As for the cause of the fire… it’s still under investigation — but just before it started, fireworks were launched from the ship and exploded directly above, so it certainly looks like a magical moment gone wrong.
BTW… authorities say there were also 1,000 rounds of ammunition on the boat — it’s unclear why or what kind. Officials also say there were two people on the ship at the time. Both survived, with one suffering minor injuries.
Unfortunately, firefighters had no chance of saving the ship from the same fate as the Titanic… the yacht sank about two hours after the fire started.
As we said, investigators are still looking into how the fire started… although we can’t imagine fireworks and live ammunition being a firefighter-approved combination.
