A criminal organisation, whose members were active in committing motorcycle thefts in Attica and Mykonos, subsequently falsifying their identification data, was dismantled by the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate in collaboration with a Special Police Squad of the Attica Security Directorate.
As it became known, three members of the organization, aged 18, 21 and 24, were arrested in connection with the case, while in the proceedings brought against them for – as the case may be – criminal organization – gang, forgery, qualified theft, complicity and accompaniment, as well as violations of the legislation on the KOK and foreigners, one more person is included.
How the circuit worked
An investigation was carried out, which revealed that the defendants, having formed a criminal organization, with different functions, continuous activity and with the aim of obtaining illicit income, committed different thefts of motorcycles, which they took from different areas of Attica and Mykonos.
In particular, after targeting the two-wheeled vehicles, they inspected the places where they were stored and, bypassing the various security measures in place, removed them. They then transferred them to a special area and, using the equipment they had, falsified their identification data (chassis numbers, engine numbers, etc.), to make it more difficult to verify them in a possible investigation.
Targeted controls by the OPKE police played a catalytic role in ending their action. and the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate, with the 18-year-old and the 21-year-old being caught in recent days on the rural roads of Mykonos, riding and riding stolen motorbikes without registration plates. In fact, the 18-year-old was caught performing dangerous manoeuvres, while the 21-year-old did not have the required driving licence.
Using the preliminary investigation data, it was established that the two specific motorcycles were handed over to his co-accused, the 24-year-old and another person who is part of the organization listed in the records.
According to the investigation so far, members of the organization are involved in three separate motorcycle thefts in Athens and Mykonos, as well as five cases of counterfeiting of two-wheelers, motorcycle engines and frames.
In physical searches and also in warehouses, among other things, the following were found and seized:
- 5 two-wheelers, one of which was reported stolen, while some had no chassis number,
- 3 skeletons and 13 motorcycle engines,
- plate, which corresponds to a two-wheeled vehicle that was reported stolen,
- pair of plates that were reported stolen/lost,
- wheel, cutter, drill,
- 3 cell phones and driving license.
The seized transit license will be sent to the Authority that issued it, the evidence (motorcycles, skeletons, etc.) will be sent for examination to the competent workshop of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, while the other parts and spare parts will be sent to the competent Customs for safekeeping.
The prisoners were sent to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office.
