Brian Cox I’m not going to hold superhero movies back anymore… saying guys like them Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are too talented for them—yet he can’t criticize them for taking the money.
The actor spoke on a panel at the Edinburgh Worldwide Movie Pageant in Scotland on Saturday… and took the same line as many Hollywood legends — saying that cinema is in decline these days and that Marvel is at least partly to blame.
The way Cox puts it, the grandiose nature of the films has led to a lack of plot… and the actors are treating it more as a grand celebration than an actual problem.
He particularly quotes Hugh and Ryan here… saying that “Deadpool & Wolverine” may make the studio a lot of money, but it doesn’t really change the idea creatively.
Cox says he thinks “Hugh Jackman can do a little bit more” and so can Ryan Reynolds… however, they choose not to because they are being paid so well.
There’s nothing to criticize them for, BC provides… so he’s not saying Hugh and Ryan are doing anything fundamentally inappropriate — just that they could be trying harder.
Cox acknowledges that it’s bizarre that he would mention this, given that he had already achieved the whole superhero factor before… appearing alongside Jackman in “X2” back then — but even so, he forgets about that role quite often.
In fact, Brian is not afraid to speak his mind… even being attacked several times this year by explosion fellow actor Joaquin Phoenix and criticizing organized faith Also — most importantly, Cox is not one to shy away from controversy.
Price note… ‘D&W’ has gross over $1 billion worldwide — so Hugh and Ryan probably won’t listen to anything Cox has to say.
Conclusion… just another star hating the MCU — while Marvel actors have piles of fat!
