Here’s What Happened to Megan Keleman, the 25-Year-Old Woman from Ohio
According to the Akron Beacon Journalthe incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 14, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Authorities reportedly explained that Keleman stopped in front of a 53-year-old man Jason Williams at a Taco Bell drive-thru. Williams allegedly honked at Keleman. Additionally, the man allegedly rear-ended her car with his.
After her car was hit, the 25-year-old allegedly asked an employee to call the police. However, Williams allegedly got out of the vehicle and shot the 25-year-old before turning the gun on himself.
According to the outlet, Keleman succumbed to a gunshot wound to the neck, while Williams succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.
Furthermore, the Akron Beacon Journal adds that police received 14 calls about the incident when it occurred.
Why did Jason Williams commit murder-suicide?
According to the outlet, Williams’ motive for the shooting remains unknown. Additionally, it appears he and Keleman did not know each other.
“This is a true tragedy,” Stow Police Chief Jeffrey Film said during a press conference earlier this week. “Not only did the Kelemans lose a daughter, but the community lost one of our daughters. … At this point, we don’t have an answer as to why this happened, and we may never know why.”
WKBN adds that, as of August 15, “it is still not known whether” the 53-year-old man “was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
“It appears the person was in crisis,” Film was quoted as saying by the outlet. “I don’t think we’ll be able to explain the motivation behind his decision-making.”
What happens next?
According to the Akron Beacon JournalThe case is being investigated by “The Summit County Medical Examiner, Stow Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.” The outlet adds that the last homicide in Stow, Ohio, was “five years ago,” and the city currently “does not have enough homicide detectives to cover the case.”
“In a situation like this, we want to do the best job we can, and with their additional resources… I think this will help us determine how this happened,” Film explained, according to reports. USA Today.
Additionally, the outlet adds that Keleman’s family released a statement amid his death.
“In light of recent events, our family is grieving the immensely painful loss of Megan Elizabeth Keleman,” the statement read. “We appreciate the community’s support and hope that our request for privacy will be honored so that we can continue to focus on supporting each other during this difficult time.”
The outlet adds that Taco Bell has remained closed since the incident. The location is reportedly prioritizing “employee well-being and moving forward at the pace.”
In addition, the company would be offering workers resources for “support” and cooperation with the authorities’ investigation.
