Shine Bright! Celebrity Jeweler Kyle Chan designed parts for Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Camila Hair, Lady Gagaand more, and he told ET all about his creative process and the trinkets celebrities love as they celebrate their Kyle Chan x Gold Bar Whiskey Wall Collaboration.
“I learned how to make jewelry when I was in high school, where I was required to take a mandatory art class. I didn’t want to paint, nor did I want to be a carpenter, and I saw that there was a jewelry making class, so I took it as a leap of faith and immediately fell in love with it,” Chan explains.
From there, he decided to launch his own line of unique and timeless rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more, made to mix and match.
“Each piece comes with a unique story. … Many originated from a gemstone I found, and I used my imagination to figure out what those gemstones could become,” he shares.
And this distinctive look is part of the reason why celebrities can’t stop wearing it. your projects.
“Often when I get a project, I not only study the celebrity’s red carpet style, but also their individual, personal taste. Then I go further and try to look at their life to tailor jewelry to them,” he notes.
One experience that stands out for Chan: “I once designed a collection for Beyoncé and designed a honeycomb diamond pendant with an IV inside. For the little dot on the diamond ‘i,’ I used a rare blue diamond, which represented Blue Ivy, for her daughter’s name.”
“I also made her a blue and white diamond honeycomb body chain, where the honeycomb represented the ‘Queen Bee’ and the blue represented Blue Ivy. The body chain hung close to her heart and body, and she loved it,” adds the jewelry expert.
In addition to producing meaningful pieces, Chan believes that jewelry creates a look no matter how you choose to wear it.
“Jewelry is the most important thing to help complete a look because it’s like the chandelier in your home. Without it, the shine is gone.”
“What I love about jewelry is that there are no limits or rules. It can be simple or bold, flashy and colorful, and made from inexpensive metal or rare and exquisite gemstones. Whatever story you want to tell, that story is yours and yours alone,” he says.
