With about five minutes left in the FAU vs. Northwestern game… Norah O’Donnell appeared on screen to inform the CBS audience that Middleton had just revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
The broadcast played about 30 seconds of video of Middleton explaining his prognosis.

O’Donnell spoke on camera for about another minute … before the network resumed its planned coverage of the big basketball game.
Owls and Wildcats fans didn’t miss a second of the game’s action… as a long intermission was called during the special report.
Northwestern secured the overtime victory, defeating FAU, 77-65, in overtime.
