An increase in confirmed dangerous violations is observed in the first half of 2024 in the Region of Western Greece, compared to the corresponding period of 2023, according to official Police data.
The most dangerous infractions confirmed for drivers of cars and two-wheeled vehicles are speeding, failure to wear seat belts and helmets, lack of technical control of vehicles, as well as driving with worn tires.
Also noteworthy is the number of drivers who were in default, who performed dangerous maneuvers while driving and violated red lights.
In the first half of 2024, 21,681 dangerous violations were confirmed in the three regional units of Western Greece, namely in Achaea, Ilia and Aitoloakarnania, while in the same period of 2023, 21,171 were confirmed.
The 10 most dangerous violations were:
10,784 for speeding, 2,601 for not wearing a seatbelt, 2,329 for not wearing a helmet, 1,526 for not checking road signs, 867 for driving with worn tires, 821 for dangerous maneuvers while driving, 811 for running a red light, 594 for driving in the wrong direction, 340 for using a cell phone while driving, 251 for not using child seats.
Along with checks for dangerous crimes, there were also checks to investigate drunkenness.
In particular, according to police data, in the first half of 2024, 28,340 breathalyzer tests were carried out and 846 drivers were identified as being under the influence of alcohol.
In the corresponding period of 2023, 26,585 breathalyzer tests were carried out and 1,006 drivers were identified as driving under the influence of alcohol.
