The following post contains spoilers for the season finale of The Acolyte.
Another much discussed topic Star Wars character made his long-awaited live-action debut. The famous Sith Lord Darth Plagueis makes a brief appearance in a scene from the season finale of The Acolyte.
Fans have been speculating about how various Acolyte characters may be connected to Plagueis throughout the season. (Some theories have even emphasized whether Plagueis it was (Some of the characters in disguise.) Plagueis was introduced by Jorge Lucas in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sithin one of the scenes where the secretly evil Emperor Palpatine seduces the impressionable Jedi Anakin Skywalker. To help lure him to the Dark Side of the Force, he tells him “the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise,” who supposedly had mastered the Dark Side of the Force to the point where he could create life and stave off death—at least until his own apprentice killed him. (That apprentice turned out to be Palpatine.)
The character Plagueis was later the focus of a Star Wars novel written by James Luceno that is technically now out of continuity (although the rules about what is and isn’t canon get confusing at times), which revealed some of his life story up until his death at the hands of Palpatine. The Acolyte It was the character’s first on-screen appearance.
Plagueis’ “tragedy” fits into the central mystery of the work The Acolyte involving twins Osha and Mae — who are revealed in this episode to not be twins at all, but rather a single person split in half, and created from a “vergence” in the Force on their home planet. The notion of creating life from the Force was a big clue that fans picked up on that Plagueis would be involved in the series in some way. Well, he was — though so far his involvement has been limited to hanging out in a cave. Presumably, future seasons will bring Darth Plagueis more into the spotlight,
Plagueis wasn’t the only famous one Star Wars special participation The Acolyte ending. Jedi Master Yoda also appears in a one-off cameo at the end of the episode.
The full season of The Acolyte is now broadcasting on Disney+.
