Who is ready to enter the world of Borderlands?
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming ET movie, cast members Kevin Hart, Cate BlanchettJamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Jack Black and more are teasing the film adaptation of one of the best-selling video games of all time.
Borderlands follows bounty hunter Lilith (Blanchett), who reluctantly returns to her chaotic “trash dump” home planet of Pandora on an important mission: to find the missing daughter of the powerful and dangerous Atlas (Edgar Ramirez). Along the way, she assembles a ragtag team that includes mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), eccentric scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the playful robot Claptrap (Jack Black), the young and wild demolitionist Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt) and his protector, Krieg (Florian Munteanu).
In the new featurette, Blanchett, 55, explains that the ragtag team becomes more of a “weird, dysfunctional family” as they embark on their mission and traverse Pandora. The label is supported by a clip where Roland uses a very stern, fatherly voice with Tiny Tina.
“What did I tell you?” Hart’s character asks Greenblatt as she replies, “Minimal explosions.” He quickly shouts back, “I said no explosions.”
According to Hart, entering the world of Borderlands required a serious and extensive “education” on the game. This also applies to the film’s director, Eli Roth, who said he had the privilege of working with those who know the IP best.
“Direction Borderlands“Luckily, I had the creators to guide me through the game and years and years of Borderlands history,” says Roth.
Just as the film intends, the teaser packs a punch, showing car chases, teleportation, hand-to-hand combat, a spaceship falling from the sky and more in just 90 seconds. There’s also a clip where the gang crashes through the throat of a massive monster.
For the actors at the center of the film, it was an easy decision to sign on to the project, as it comes with a built-in fanbase. The video game on which the film is based spawned two sequels and has sold over 100 million copies across the franchise.
“I’m so excited to be playing Claptrap, the legendary robot,” says Black, 54, as a clip shows his character taking out two soldiers and yelling, “Back off, bitches.”
Curtis, 65, who is leaving his 2023 Oscar win for Everything everywhere at once and is a strong favorite to receive an Emmy nomination for her work guest starring role in The bear season 2, Borderlands has exactly what you are looking for in a project.
“It has pathos, it has humor, it has quite of action”, shares the actress.
“I want people to say, ‘That was the best movie theater experience I’ve had in years,'” Roth explains.
